Winning a CIF Championship is the goal of every high school athlete, coach, and school. Repeating as CIF Champs is a dream only attained by a few programs that transcend their sport. Coach Danny Polmounter and the Sultana girls soccer team defeated all their competition to earn their second strait CIF Southern-Section Championship. On March 11, the Sultans defeated the Granite Hills Cougars 3-0 at Granite Hills to remain champions. On the path to their repeat they also defeated Palm Springs 3-2, Silverado 3-1, La Serna 2-1, and Bishop Amat 1-0. When the girls beat Granite, Coach Polmounter said everyone could feel the emotion as the girls came into huddle as the look of happiness was on all their faces. Granite was ranked number two in CIF and Sultana was rated fifth coming into the final game. Bishop Amat was ranked number one and the girls beat them prior to a rematch with Granite. Coach Polmounter credited their success to teamwork and solid play across the lineup. Defense was one of the key areas and sophomore Cassie Bird would not let the ball past her as she stepped up her defensive position this year. Bird also made Vaitea Tehauri, goal keeper, less nervous. Tehauri just recently stepped up to the goal keeper position and was following in the footsteps of the extremely talented Chelsey Jones. Tehari was catching anything that got past her defense as she held the Cougars scoreless in the final game. Megan Baum felt that the teams communication definitely improved their soccer. Bomb's favorite part of the game was when they scored the third goal and secured the win. AJ Rosales proclaimed that, "We were really champions!" The statement sums up that despite everything that the girls went through this season there is only way to describe them again--Champions.
