Blood Drive

“I’m just trying to help. Whether they use my blood or not, I know I’m helping someone,” said Mario Ramirez, junior at Sultana High School. This is his third time giving blood at school. At the start of the new year, 300 students filed into Sultan Hall to participate in the blood drive. ASB helped prepare for the start of the blood drive as students were starting to come in.

Those who had signed up for the event were required to get screened and approved to make sure they were eligible to give blood. The persons height, weight, and past history would depend on the amount of blood they could give. It was mostly juniors and seniors who participated in the blood drive.

To be a part of the event, a student had to be at least 16 years of age and 110 pounds or more. Once on the table, giving a full pint of blood was a process, which took anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour.

There were two things that students weren’t looking forward to; waiting, and having a needle stuck into them. There were those who took a deep breath and just took it when their time came. Then there were the ones who passed out at the sight of the needle.
