On Friday, April 11, student teams from Oak Hills, Hesperia and AAE high schools presented mock bills at the Legislative Power Lunch sponsored by the High Desert Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (HDHCC). Our 5-member team from Oak Hills – consisting of seniors Dana Baraka and Victoria Fierro, and juniors Jorge Espinoza, Robert Long, and Jocelyn Virgen – were selected as the winning team with their bill proposal on aqueduct safety. This has earned the students a trip to the State Capitol in Sacramento this coming June to meet with state lawmakers and leaders.
The HDHCC Legislative Power Lunch connects high school students with federal, state, and local legislators for meaningful discussions on important issues. This event demystifies the legislative process while giving students a chance to engage directly with policymakers.
Thank you HUSD for the opportunity to attend!
